The Magubevu Clan is made up of several clan families with different names who all have common ancestral origin and pledge allegiance to common ancestry. All the families are united by the recognition of being a Gubevu or Maduna clan member and are considered to be related by blood.
Identity and Origins
Lineage & Language:
The Magubevu clan is a part of the broader Nguni / AbaMbo people. Today, they are predominantly found among the isiXhosa-speaking AmaMfengu communities.
Geographic Roots:
Historically originating from areas in modern-day KwaZulu-Natal, the clan migrated southwards to the Eastern Cape during the early 19th-century.
Mfecane displacement.
Today, there is a strong concentration in the Eastern Cape,the Western Cape, and Gauteng.
Clan Praises.

Clan members recognize and greet one another using shared ancestral praises, including Gubevu, Maduna, Msuthu, Nokhala, Jiyane, Sjekula, Salakulandelwa, Mpungushe, and Ngaculende.
Traditional exogamy laws strictly forbid marriage between individuals sharing these names, as they are considered direct blood relatives.
The clan has come together under the auspices of BAMBANANI MAGUBEVU gathering to bring unity of purpose among the clan members.
